Saint-Maximin la Sainte-Baume is situated in a wine growing region, surrounded on one side by La Sainte-Baume, and on the other by La Sainte-Victoire, which inspired so much Cezanne. The village occupy an important position in the history of Christianity: Its gigantic Basilica, shelters the relics of Saint Mary –Magdalene, who spent her last 30 years in the cave nestling in La Sainte-Baume mountain.
